Founded in 1999, Millennium Science quickly established itself as Australia and New Zealand's leading distributor of high technology instrumentation and reagents for the biomedical research market. Having represented numerous ground-breaking suppliers including 10x Genomics and PacBio, Millennium Science has developed a strong brand with customers as the preeminent local source for revolutionary research technologies. In 2020 Millennium Science merged with Jomar Life Research to expand its range of consumable products. Millennium Science now offers a comprehensive collection of respected instrument systems and quality reagents.
Senior Management
Alex Szabo has been the CEO of Jomar Life Research since 2013 and CEO of Millennium Science since the companies were merged in 2020. During this time, he has guided the company to more than a 50-fold increase in product sales. He has nearly 30 years' experience in the life science industry, including positions with Affymetrix, BIAcore, Beckman Coulter and Stratagene (now Agilent). Alex received his bachelor's degree in Biophysics from U.C. Berkeley, PhD in biochemistry from MIT, and MBA from Santa Clara University (USA). He has held research positions at Stanford University, the Pasteur Institute (France) and the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Research Institute in New York.
Paul joined Millennium Science in 2019 as a Field Application Scientist. He moved to Adelaide in 1998 having completed a PhD in Plant Molecular Biology at the John Innes Centre in the UK. He completed a post-doctoral position at CSIRO-Plant Industry where he focused on post-harvest quality of fruits and vegetables, then moved to the University of Adelaide to run their cereal genetic transformation facility. He then worked for many years as Senior Scientist with the Australian Genome Research Facility (AGRF), running a suite of Next-Gen Sequencing machines as well as coordinating genotyping and diversity profiling projects.
With over 30 years' experience in the life sciences industry and having held senior positions within Applied Biosystems and Backman Coulter, Janice joined Millennium Science in 2009 and was the territory manager for Victoria and Tasmania. More recently, she took on the role of Field Sales Manger and is currently the Director of Sales.
Karen McRae-Johns has been the Marketing Manager at Millennium Science & Jomar Life Research since 2021. She helps promote our company, suppliers, and their products to Australian and New Zealand researchers via a strong social media presence, e-marketing emails, and in-person events. Karen has 9 years of experience in life sciences. Karen received her Bachelor of Science with Honours (Biochemistry) from the University of Melbourne in 2013, PhD in Biochemistry from Monash University in 2018 and completed an internship with Jomar Life Research throughout 2017. Following this internship Karen joined Jomar Life Research in a sales and marketing role as a Product Manager before transitioning to the Marketing Manager role.
With an expertise in single cell and spatial technologies, Claire loves to foster ANZ research via the introduction of powerful, reliable t echnology . Prior to joining Jomar Life Research as a product manager in 2019, she held positions at Monash University and RMIT. She received her Bachelor of Science (Honours) and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Melbourne, and did her postgraduate studies at Monash University on the immunogenicity of plant-made vaccines. She has also received a Graduate Certificate in Commercialising Research from Monash University.
Steven obtained his PhD in Genetics at the University of Pretoria, South Africa in 2014 and established himself as the Principal Investigator of a forest biotechnology research group at the same institution. In 2020, he was awarded a Prestigious (P) rating by the National Research Foundation. In late 2021, he emigrated to Australia and joined Millennium Science in early 2022 as the leader of our new business development function.
